Tis The Season to Avoid the Crowds
One of our new sponsors here on CharterWave, Regency Yacht Vacations, has an interesting post today on its company blog about how right now, the Virgin Islands are a virtual ghost town–and how it’s a perfect time for off-season charters away from the crowds that clog the islands come winter.
This caught my eye because, just yesterday, we announced the CharterWave broker of the month for August: Beverly Parsons. She’s an expert on charters in the Eastern European nation of Turkey, where it is high season right now, but where she always says people should consider chartering in the early fall months of September and October because it’s the much-less-crowded off season.
It’s not always possible to find yachts in certain destinations outside of each region’s high season, simply because weather sometimes forces yachts to leave for safety reasons. However, shoulder seasons–those times just before and after the high seasons–are often really great weather-wise for chartering. Plus, you can often work with a reputable charter broker to get a nice deal price-wise.
As we enter the month of August–the most expensive month of the year for chartering in the prime Mediterranean areas–don’t fret if you’ve missed out on a summer charter. There’s still plenty of time to book for an early fall getaway, or even a trip to “ghost town” in the Caribbean to have the islands all to yourself.
