Latitude: The Right Attitude
I just finished my first full day off the coast of Panama City onboard the expedition motoryacht Latitude. I am in the Las Perlas Islands, which are about a four-hour cruise from the main harbor (near the Panama Canal) at a speed of 12 knots.
I must say, I am having a fantastic time. Latitude is an example of what an expedition charter yacht should be–a boat built to go anywhere in the world that is actually offering charters in exotic destinations like this one. There are other expedition yachts out there for charter, but many of them cruise in the same Caribbean and Mediterranean waters as “regular” charter yachts. This boat is actually living up to its name, offering charters in a place where virtually no other charter yachts go.
That is not to say we are alone here in this beautiful destination. The super-size motoryacht Octopus (not available for charter) was in the same harbor as ours last night. That is another yacht that can go pretty much anywhere. Interesting that they, too, are here checking out what has the potential to be a far more popular cruising ground in the future.
I hope to have more for you from Latitude tomorrow, assuming the WiFi connection holds up out here in the middle of nowhere. Today, we used the three (yes, three) dinghies and tenders–including a fast powercatamaran–to go snorkeling, beach combing, and scuba diving. Tomorrow is offshore fishing. Talk about having all the right equipment for making the most of a place like this.
Like I said: Latitude has the right attitude. I hope to have another good report for you tomorrow from here on the Pacific coast of Panama.
