Senses to Offer Charters in Alaska

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I just learned from the folks at Edmiston & Company that the 194-foot expedition motoryacht Senses–one of my favorite charter yachts in the world–is going to be offering charters in Alaska this summer.

Fewer and fewer charter yachts have been going to Alaska since laws went into effect after 9/11 that made transiting in and out of ports there a bit more cumbersome, so to have a yacht of this caliber offering charters amid the glaciers is big news indeed. She’s going to be cruising along the western coast of Canada, as well, a destination that I find so beautiful, I chose it for my own honeymoon a few years ago.

Senses takes 12 guests at a weekly base rate of $260,000. Yes, you will be able to find less-expensive charter yachts in Alaska this summer, but none with the stylish Philippe Starck interiors that Senses offers. Contact any reputable charter broker for more information.

Always Upgrading

I caught up with the 47-foot sailing yacht Tachyon recently and was pleased to see that owner-operators Eric and Jacque Stahl were still onboard and hard at work. Even better, I was happy to learn that they are continuing to invest in their charter yacht to offer guests things they can’t find anywhere else.

The most recent addition is a beautiful, custom-made table in the main saloon that displays a map of the Virgin Islands (their cruising grounds) when closed, and offers games for guests to play when opened. Here are photos of both:

Pretty schnazzy, right? I thought so, too. Especially when compared with the fiberglass tables that you see on a lot of similar charter sailing catamarans in Tachyon’s size range.

To play a game of checkers or backgammon onboard yourself during a weeklong vacation, contact any reputable charter broker.

Last-Minute Option

The folks at Nicholson Yachts say the 65-foot sailing catamaran True North (a CharterWave favorite) has a gap in her schedule–starting this Friday. The boat is looking for charter clients who want to vacation in the Caribbean and Virgin Islands between this weekend and March 15.

The weekly base rate is $29,500 for eight guests, but if you’re a regular CharterWave reader, then you know that when yachts have openings to fill, they’re sometimes willing to negotiate. Check with any reputable charter broker if you’d like to make a pitch.

Also in the good-deals-waiting department, have you taken a look recently at the CharterWave Deals & Promos page? One of our new sponsors, V.I. Sailing, has put together a few special deals as well.

The winter season is definitely starting to wind down, but that means last-minute opportunities are picking up. Stay tuned–we’ll keep bringing them to you as we learn about them!
