An Up-and-Comer to Watch
Here’s some great news coming out of the remains of what, until a few weeks ago, was the Merrill-Stevens charter management department: Clancy Weller has taken a new job with Neptune Group Yachting, as the personal executive assistant of company President DJ Parker. Here’s a shot of them at last week’s Dubai boat show:

Clancy–whom I’ve always found to be bright, enthusiastic, and eager–used to help yacht owners manage their boats for charter through Merrill-Stevens. In her heart, though, she wanted to become a charter broker who helps readers like you book charter yacht vacations.
So when Merrill-Stevens suddenly shuttered its shop and left her jobless, she approached longtime broker DJ Parker, a captain-turned-charter expert and one of the people I have learned to trust most in this business. (See our interview with DJ for more about her background.)
As DJ explained it to me last night, Clancy is now her personal assistant and will remain so for “up to a year.” Somewhere within that time frame, Clancy will become a full-fledged charter broker for Neptune Group Yachting.
I’ll tell you, this is exactly the sort of thing I like to see: a smart up-and-comer doing an apprenticeship with a longtime reputable broker before booking charters for readers like you. It’s a heck of a lot different than all these newcomers to the industry who put up a website and tell you they can help you book a charter without any real training in or understanding of the industry itself.
Clancy Weller, to my thinking, is an up-and-coming broker to watch. I look forward to seeing her progress, and to recommending her to readers like you as a reputable broker in the near future.
