Off to Brazil

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

If you are reading this on the morning of Wednesday, March 12, then I am hopefully onboard a plane that is getting close to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. I’ll be spending the next few days checking out some charter yachts and shipyards in the area.

As always, I’ll do my best to post updates here on the Editor’s Blog daily. Brazil is an interesting, potentially up-and-coming charter destination, so there should be lots of interesting material to share here on CharterWave.

Stay tuned…

Off to Miami

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

If you’re reading this on Wednesday, February 13, then I am hopefully in the air somewhere between greater New York City and Miami, Florida, bound for the Miami International Boat Show. (There is an ice storm up here, and tornado warnings down there, so keep your fingers crossed for me…)

As always, I will be getting onboard new charter yachts all week and reporting back to you here on the blog with daily updates whenever possible about all the interesting stuff that I find. Stay tuned!

From Our Lips to Royal Ears

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Yesterday’s post here on the Editor’s Blog was about a new Special Report on CharterWave that compares the environmental impact of charter yachts vs. cruise ships.

Just 24 hours later, a friend at Camper & Nicholsons International pointed out this article posted today by BBC News–about how Prince Charles and the Dutchess of Cornwall have chosen a yacht charter onboard the 246-foot motoryacht Leander because it will be a more environmentally friendly vacation than the Prince’s last trip to the Caribbean.

We admit, there’s a bit of spin behind that characterization of the Royals’ upcoming getaway onboard a charter yacht whose base price is more than a half-million dollars a week.

But hey, it’s also possible that the Prince is following our lead in showing the public that charter is truly the environmentally friendly choice for cruising vacations.

If you’re reading this, Charles, well done!  And enjoy that custom pool onboard Leander. It’s one of our favorites!
