Just look at that gorgeous photo: Anyone who loves classic motoryachts will be hard-pressed to stop drooling after even the quickest look at the 85-foot Enticer. Designed by world-famous John Trumpy and originally commissioned in 1935, this yacht underwent a spectacular refit at the Philadelphia Maritime Museum in 2002 before being purchased by McMillen Yachts, a Rhode Island-based company that specializes in offering charters onboard classic yachts.

Enticer entered the McMillen Yachts fleet in summer 2006 as a fractionally owned boat. This means that people buy shares in Enticer the same way they might buy a resort timeshare on land, and each share entitles an investor to a certain number of weeks chartering onboard. According to Capt. Bill Seiden, a 5 percent ownership stake in Enticer gets you at least eight days aboard for charter at $2,500 a day, as opposed to the public charter rate of $4,000 a day plus expenses.

With the number of investors so far, he said, the yacht was just about fully booked for summer 2007 even before the month of May. Most investors want to cruise in New England during the prime months of June, July and August, so McMillen Yachts is focusing on offering charters to the public during the fall months in locations such as the Chesapeake Bay and the golf-filled coastlines of North and South Carolina.

enticer main saloon Enticer’s interior feels like an inn in Newport harbor. She has a charm and elegance of years gone by—as well as accommodations that were designed long before large cabins and private bathrooms became the norm. For instance, her two aft cabins, sleeping four guests total, share a single bathroom. The layout is ideal for parents with children, as the master stateroom on the same level has its own bathroom.
You may see Enticer advertised as taking seven guests instead of six, and that’s because there is a tiny fourth guest cabin on the main deck forward. This used to be the captain’s cabin, and it has a single twin bed that is best suited for a nanny or bodyguard.

The yacht has comfortable sitting areas inside and out, and she’ll certainly draw oohs and aahs no matter which marinas she enters. Just don’t expect to do much offshore cruising onboard this yacht. As Capt. Seiden says, “She’s built to cruise around harbors. She’s not a good foul-weather boat.”

Enticer carries three crew at a weekly base rate of $28,000, or about $5,800 per person for six guests with 25-percent expenses included. McMillen Yachts also has certified her through the U.S. Coast Guard to offer day charters for 50 to 80 people. Contact any reputable charter broker for booking information.—Kim Kavin
