First Impression: 5 Fishes
Date toured: May 2010
5 Fishes is a 114-foot SBF Freemantle Australia motoryacht that launched in 1984. Her original name was Ocean Trilogy, and over the years she has also been called Trilogy and Lady Anna of Fyfe. Her current owner christened her 5 Fishes when he bought her about three years ago—and began renovating her from top to bottom.
“The previous owner was basically chartering her until she died, so we have been doing constant refit for the past three years,” Capt. Brad Baker told me as we sat in the comfortably restored main salon. “The engine room has been rebuilt from the ground up, we have all new wiring, the entire bridge was replaced, we rebuilt the generators—they were stripped down to the blocks. Now, we’re finally ready to go cruising with some guests onboard.”
Baker, who is Australian, considers the 2010 summer season in the Mediterranean the yacht’s re-introduction to the international charter market. The company signed into the fleet at International Yacht Collection and made a point of being shipshape for display at the May 2010 Genoa yacht charter show.
“I can understand that brokers don’t want to book clients aboard a 26-year-old charter boat without seeing it, so here we are,” he told me with a great sense of pride.
Baker has been running charter boats since 1996. He is one among nine crew including German Chef Peter Göppel—a substantial number of crew for a charter yacht this size. 5 Fishes accommodates 10 guests, which means the crew-to-guest ratio is nearly one-to-one.
“People will also want to know that we’re very good on fuel,” he told me. According to International Yacht Collection, 5 Fishes burns 140 liters of fuel per hour at a cruising speed of 12 knots. Not too shabby at all.
5 Fishes will complete the 2010 summer season in the Mediterranean before moving to either Malta, Barcelona, or the Caribbean for the 2010-11 winter season. Her weekly base rate is €72,000. Any reputable charter broker can tell you more or help you book a week onboard.—Kim Kavin |
