First Impression: One More Toy
Date toured: December 2011
One More Toy is a 155-foot Christensen that launched from the shipyard in 2001 as Liquidity. The current owner has had her for at least six years, and she’s always been in charter—very busy in charter, actually.
“I joined the boat about a year ago, and just this past summer in the Mediterranean, we did more than 12 weeks and 9,000 miles,” Capt. Randall Peterson told me as we sat in the main salon. “The owner loves to charter. For a 155-footer, we’re a lot of boat. And we’re priced extremely competitively. We’re in U.S. dollars, even in the Mediterranean. So you get a lot of boat for the money.”
Because One More Toy has had such heavy use and is coming up on being a decade old, I took a careful look around, including casting an eye in places where I thought I’d find frayed carpeting edges and scratched woodwork. I found nothing of the sort. She looks practically brand-new, with stunning high-gloss black walnut, marble with lovely silver inlays, and tons of natural light thanks to her oversized windows.
“She was originally built for the owner of the Christensen shipyard, so she is pure quality,” Peterson said. “She’s really a beautiful boat.”
I agree wholeheartedly. And she has smart charter features, too. There’s an elevator that goes all the way to the sundeck, wheelchair-accessible spaces, a 31-foot Jupiter tender, four Wave Runners, WiFi for guests, snorkeling gear, kayaks, and tons of fishing equipment. One More Toy also has six cabins to accommodate 12 guests. The master is on the main deck with a king-size bed. Belowdecks are the queen-bed VIP cabin, two additional queen-bed cabins, and two cabins that each have a double bed, a twin bed, and a bunk-style Pullman berth. Those last two cabins can be ideal for a couple, for kids with a nanny, or for kids by themselves. They’re a great amenity for charter.
Also worth noting is that when she’s not on charter, One More Toy is part of Operation Cruise. It’s a charitable foundation that the owner founded in January 2011 to allow wounded Special Operation Forces veterans the chance to vacation aboard a luxury yacht for free. They are invited to bring their spouses, and they get a chance to interact with other veterans as well as with a counselor in a relaxed setting. It’s an incredibly generous program.
One More Toy is scheduled to be in the Northern Caribbean during winter 2011-12 before moving to the Western Mediterranean for the summer 2012 season. Her lowest weekly base rate is $150,000. International Yacht Collection is the management company, and any reputable charter broker can help you book a week onboard.—Kim Kavin
