First Impression: Fortunato
Date toured: December 2011
The 205-foot Feadship motoryacht Fortunato was built in 2000 as Cakewalk and got her third owner during autumn 2011. When I stepped onboard just a few months later, Capt. Jonathan May warned me not to get too attached to the interior décor shown in the photograph at right. A refit was planned for winter 2011-12, with Fortunato scheduled to return to charter refreshed and renewed for the summer 2012 season in the Mediterranean.
May was first officer under the previous captain, and Fortunato’s chief stewardess and chef also were among the previous owner’s crew. They’re now the core of the current crew and are looking forward to performing charters with the new interior look.
Fortunato’s general layout is not expected to change. She has a large entry foyer with a grand staircase that shows off the rich cherry wood that continues all throughout the yacht. An elevator services all decks, including the sundeck, and large windows are in many of the guest areas including the main salon and sky lounge.
Seven guest cabins are onboard. The master is on the main deck with true his-and-her bathrooms (including two separate showers and bathtubs). The remaining six guest cabins are on the bottom deck. Four have queen-size beds, while two cabins each have a double bed plus one twin bed. It’s noteworthy that every guest cabin aboard Fortunato has not just a shower, but also a bathtub.
When Fortunato’s interior refit is complete, she will make way to the Mediterranean for summer 2012 with a lowest weekly base rate of €380,000 with 17 guests.
