Owner, Allied Yacht Charters
Date interviewed: October 2010
When did you open Allied Yacht Charters?
Allied Yacht Charters became my full-time business in 2002. Previously, I had worked for Allied Marine, which was acquired by Richard Bertram, and also for Broward Yachts before that. I had done charter bookings with both of those companies, including having started the charter division at Allied Marine.
How is Allied Yacht Charters different from other charter-management companies?
What I’ve created in Allied Yacht Charters is a boutique-style company. I’ve had as many as 10 yachts under management at a time, but that’s all. There will never be dozens or hundreds of charter yachts in the Allied fleet. I like to provide the yacht owners with personal service, and I like to really know the captains and owners well so that I can offer better service to our charter clients.
What types of yachts do you manage, and where?
The majority of our managed yachts are in Florida and the Bahamas, and we specialize in late-model yachts as opposed to older ones. We generally have one or two yachts in each size range. The largest yachts I’ve managed have been in the 160-foot range.
I can of course help clients book charters aboard those yachts, but as a retail agent, I also book charters worldwide aboard yachts that other companies manage. We have a lot of repeat clients, as proof of our excellent service, and I’m particularly good at last-minute charters. If you want to go tonight or tomorrow, I’m very good at doing the extra work to make that happen.
I’ve also done a lot of wedding and corporate charters. Whatever you want to charter, I will help you.
Your website says that Allied Yacht Charters also offers jet and villa rentals.
We do, and we can do them separately or combined with a yacht charter vacation. Our partners have villas worldwide, but primarily, our clients are interested in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. I also have particularly great contacts in the Pacific Northwest and Southern California.
What else makes you different from other charter brokers?
I will go the extra mile. If you’re very particular and want to know about every option on the market, I will give it to you. That’s the kind of shopper that I am, too. I want you to feel like you are making the right choice. I am incredibly thorough in the research I will present to you.
And in terms of what I do differently for yacht owners, I would say that I have a lot of contacts in the yacht brokerage industry. If I manage your yacht for charter, then you can be sure I am receiving a lot of calls from brokers looking to book their own clients aboard yachts in my fleet.
