yacht charter broker Molly BrowneCharter broker, Camper and Nicholsons International

Date interviewed: December 2010

Congratulations on your September 2010 promotion from charter assistant to charter broker in the London office of Camper and Nicholsons International. How did you get into the business?

I’m from Somerset, England. I left school and went to London because I wanted to be independent, and I did not want to be in debt from going to university. I spent a year in secretarial and business college, and then when I was 19 I became a personal assistant in the media sales industry. I became a charter assistant at Camper and Nicholsons in November 2006, and ever since I have worked on itineraries, contracts, and searches done on behalf of clients. I really got to know the industry, and I loved it.

How is being a charter broker different from being a charter assistant?

Well, for starters, I get to leave the office and actually see the boats and meet the crews. I’ve done the Genoa charter yacht show twice, so I do know what to look for, but the 2010 Antigua charter yacht show is really the first one where I’m getting to know the crews and the other brokers. It will all make doing my job easier.

What yachts stood out to you at the 2010 Antigua charter yacht show?

I loved the 175-foot Feadship motoryacht Hurricane Run, the 184-foot Perini Navi sailing yacht Panthalassa, the 180-foot Vitters sailing yacht Marie, and the 90-foot Claasen Jachtbouw sailing yacht Atalante. I tend to handle yachts that are 80 feet and up. That’s my focus—but of course, I will do whatever the client wants.

As you grow into your new career, what do you hope will set you apart from other charter brokers?

I am young and more hungry than some other brokers. I am willing to take any kind of inquiry. And I love people, so I’m looking forward to building my client base.

I would also say that I am very organized, so I am good at planning anything. Whatever the client wants, I am eager to make it a reality.
