If one can say anything is different in the yacht charter world this year it would be what appears to be an increasing number of owners who are offering some form of discount, reduced rate or more days for the price of a week. the economic times has certainly brought out the creative nature of some owners and yacht managers.

I've been asked if this will be a regular item by one vendor of ours and frankly we feel it's too early to know this. One can say the volume of bookings was slow in the last quarter and that has made owners look back and start thinking about their list of bookings. While same offers have been very significant, for example this offer on One More Toy , some have been more modest such as 8 days for price of 7 on My Iris. Either way it's great to see a proactive approach from these yachts in these more difficult times.

Click here to see all offers we have posted in February to date, we don't know how long such offers will be good for or if owners will pull back on them once they see a few bookings. It's certainly not a overall rate reduction across the whole industry but for those clients thinking of a winter or summer yacht charter, there certainly seems to be an opportunity.

Lastly, summer 2008 in the Med for US based clients was additionally difficult due to the inflated exchange rate of the euro. The good news is that the Euro to dollar exchange rate may now be approx 20% less than the height of last summer.  Get a discount on a yacht in Greece and a "discount" compared to 2008 in exchange rate - it may be the best time for a few years to book for the Med.
