A couple of years ago the island of Sardinia imposed a luxury tax on Yachts visiting the island. It was pretty severe with full payment needed by the yacht if they spent just one day in Sardinia all summer. The fees were up to 20,000 Euro so when that was added to a charter fee it was a pretty large addition. I recall the neighbouring island of Corsica being very happy as they saw an increased yacht traffic. According the The Telegraph of London today, Sardinia's new governor is planning to repeal the tax and a similar one on private jets. Click here to read the article on the Telegraph.
