The Newport Charter Yacht Show, charter company merger, Thailand yacht charter and more

Newport Charter Yacht Show Kicks Off this Month

The Newport Charter Yacht Show (a sponsor here on CharterWave) will be held June 22-25 in Rhode Island. About two dozen yachts are expected to participate in the show, which is open to press, charter brokers and the invited guests of charter brokers.

“If you are in New England and interested in seeing some charter yachts that are available, this boat show is a great place to do it,” says CharterWave Editor Kim Kavin. “Contact any reputable charter broker to arrange an appointment to meet on the docks, and she will be able to take you aboard the yachts so you can see for yourself all the great vacation options that exist this summer in New England.”

Some of the yachts expected to attend this year’s Newport Charter Yacht Show include the 108-foot sailing yacht Marae, the 116-foot Azimut motoryacht Vivere, the 116-foot Holland Jachtbouw sailing yacht Whisper, the 50-foot sailing catamaran Paradigm Shift and the 116-foot Crescent motoryacht Unbridled, which just completed a multimillion-dollar refit.

“While you’re there, remember to ask for a taste of New England clam chowder,” Kim says. “A lot of the yacht chefs have it on board in small cups for tastings because they are cooking up big pots of it anyway for the culinary contest. Your belly will thank you, trust me.”

International Yacht Collection to Merge with Cape4 Yachting

International Yacht Collection and Cape4 Yachting have announced a merger that will create a global presence of 90 yachting professionals in 11 offices that offer yacht sales and marketing, yacht charter retail and management, interactive yacht management and shore support, crew placement, insurance and claims management, and travel agency services.

Both International Yacht Collection and Cape4 Yachting are expected to keep their brand names throughout this summer. Formal merging of the companies will occur in September 2015, and a new branding effort will be announced at that time.

The deal reportedly came about through the efforts of Kevin Bonnie, managing partner of IYC Monaco and a longtime yacht broker.

Thailand Poised to Open for Charter by Foreign-Flagged Yachts

News continues to emerge out of Thailand that government officials are preparing to relax laws for foreign-flagged yachts as early as winter 2015-16, which could mean an influx of international-caliber superyachts available for charter out of Phuket this winter season.

A new superyacht charter license is expected to be available by December, according to officials who have been meeting in Thailand since January. Immigration laws will also be changed, allowing charter yacht crew to remain in the country for the duration of the charter season.

Thailand officials hope to make the nation the hub of superyacht and charter activity in Southeast Asia, where interest in bookings continues to grow. Burgess Yachts and 37 South recently positioned charter brokers there to support increasing demand, and Ocean Independence has brokers now marketing charter yachts from Thailand to Myanmar for clients worldwide.
