Stromboli Volcano

Stomboli Island, one of the Aeolian Islands of Italy, is home to one of the most active volcanoes in the world; once known to Ancient Civilizations as “the lighthouse of the Mediterranean”, the light of the constant volcanic eruptions can still be used as a beacon for navigation in the Aeolian Islands today, on a luxury yacht charter.  In fact, if you charter a yacht out of Sicily, Italy, for a sailing vacation, cruising in the Aeolian Islands of Italy on a yacht charter is one of the few ways to experience this natural volcanic phenomenon.

The volcano on Stromboli Island has been erupting continuously for over 2000 years.  At night when anchored next to Stromboli Island, the continuous volcanic eruptions provide a natural fireworks display, rarely seen in any other location in the world. And as there are no airports in the Aeolian Islands, and so few visitors, you may experience this natural fireworks display in complete privacy as one with nature, from the top deck of your charter yacht.

The energetic can hike up to the top of the volcano, which offers a fabulous photo opportunity of the surrounding Aeolian Islands, from the “Sciara del Fuoco”.  Please allow 3 hours for the ascent hike to the top of the volcano, and 2 hours for the descent hike. And don’t miss stopping at the little pizzeria built into the side of the volcano for a slice of pizza cooked in nature’s oven using the constant heat generated by the volcano.

Stromboli is an agricultural island due to the very fertile volcanic soil, and beautiful fresh vegetables and fruits are for sale in the local markets. This is a great island for experienced scuba divers to dive in the waters surrounding.  And where else, can one dine at night on the top deck of their luxury charter yacht, while on a #yachtcharter, with a terrific natural fireworks display, presented by the Stromboli volcano?
