10 Best Charter Yacht Dining Areas PDF Print E-mail
Charter broker Missy Johnston of Northrop and Johnson Worldwide Yacht Charters says: “One of the best aspects of the Turkish gulet is the large, on-deck dining area. This is part of the general gulet design, and the expected lifestyle while onboard, with a large on-deck dining area either on the aft deck or the midship deck. You can dine al fresco in the cool breezes, under a starry night, or in inclement weather under large awnings or sun covers that snap up immediately. And after a great meal, most gulets also have vast aft deck sunpads just waiting for a post-meal digestive nap.”

Jennifer Saia, president of The Sacks Group Yachting Professionals, says: “One of the top yachts in our fleet for dining aboard is the 115-foot Crescent motoryacht Harmony. The variety of dining experiences you can have onboard is amazing. There’s the formal dining area with its ebony-and-cherry table, set with Christian Dior cutlery and Pickard china beneath an elegant frosted glass chandelier; the aft deck, where you can enjoy an al fresco meal at the polished teak table, which expands to 135 inches when a crowd is expected; and the country kitchen, where you can watch the culinary-trained chef at work.”

The team at Camper & Nicholsons International recommends dining aboard the 198-foot Benetti motoryacht Xanadu, whose bridge-deck formal dining area is open to the sky lounge and half surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Sliding glass doors open within this half-wall to create an indoor-outdoor dining experience.

CharterWave editor Kim Kavin has enjoyed multicourse meals aboard many of the world’s finest charter yachts. Her favorites for dining areas include the 161-foot Trinity motoryacht Destination Fox Harb’r Too, whose bridge-deck dining area is well-sheltered from weather while at the same time being open for lovely views and breezes.

The dining room aboard the 124-foot Hakvoort motoryacht Perle Bleue includes not one large table, but instead to smaller tables for informal meals within a contemporary décor. It’s an unusual design, and it works well.

For formal events, the 228-foot motoryacht Sherakhan has a spectacular dining room whose open-air spaces span two full decks. High overhead, guests are treated to natural light filtering in through opaque glass at the bottom of the top deck’s oversized hot tub.

The formal dining room aboard the 164-foot Trinity motoryacht Mine Games is a study in marble, with the table designed to sit within a circle of hand-crafted inlays on the floor below. The effect is downright glamorous.

Onboard the 170-foot expedition motoryacht Latitude, the formal dining table is adjacent to an open-air galley in the main saloon, much like the ones on television cooking shows. You can watch the yacht’s chef in action as your meal progresses from course to course.

The 193-foot expedition motoryacht Seawolf has an unusual dining room outside, on deck, but with a hardtop covering overhead to protect guests from weather and sun. It’s a true indoor-outdoor dining space.

Last but not least this week is the 136-foot Jongert sailing yacht Infatuation, whose indoor dining room is within a raised saloon that allows views of the outdoors. That’s unusual aboard a sailing yacht and is a nice complement to the outdoor dining area, which is ideal for dining on the best weather days.
