Antigua Charter Yacht Show Prepares for 50th Annual Celebration
From December 4-9, charter brokers and media from around the world will descend on the Caribbean for the 50th Annual Antigua Charter Yacht Show.
CharterWave editor Kim Kavin will be on the docks every day of the show, reporting news as it breaks on the CharterWave Twitter feed as well as a daily wrap-up each night on the CharterWave Daily Editor’s Blog.
“This year’s show has a number of really interesting yachts scheduled to attend,” Kim says. “I’m especially eager to see the 145-foot Hemisphere, which is just a massive catamaran, as well as the 266-foot Air, which is the largest motoryacht in the show.”
Reviews of the charter yachts on display at Antigua will begin appearing on CharterWave during the month of January. We’ll also be publishing exclusive interviews with chefs, captains, and brokers from the show throughout the beginning of 2012.
Broker Reports: 2011 Virgin Islands Charter Yacht Shows
The 2011 charter yacht shows in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands were held in November, with close to 100 charters yachts available for inspection by reputable brokers.
Kathleen Mullen of Regency Yacht Vacations tells CharterWave in our December “Broker of the Month” interview that the Virgin Islands market appears to have stabilized, with many yachts already having 10 to 18 weeks booked for the upcoming winter season. Discounting is at a minimum, she says, as yachts have made permanent rate adjustments to accommodate the global recession.
Michael Sawyer of Infinity Yacht Charters reported similarly high demand to CharterWave. He saw one yacht already fully booked for 2012 and looking to 2013, as well as another that has 20 weeks on the books for the upcoming winter season.
Both brokers said the Virgin Islands remains a separate market from the broader Caribbean, where there is still a great deal of winter availability—particularly aboard larger megayachts.
MYBA Reports Payment Scam Targeting Charter Show Exhibitors
On November 3, MYBA distributed an e-mail notice about a scam involving the annual Genoa charter yacht show.
“It has come to our attention that some attendees have been targeted by a scam with a letter and form using the MYBA Charter Show details requesting payment to exhibit,” the notice states. “Please be advised that we are investigating this further. Please do not respond to any written request received by mail.”

Yacht Charter Opportunity at 2012 Summer Olympics in London
Edmiston and Company is offering a 17-day charter package at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London aboard the 168-foot Schweers motoryacht Legend.
The company has arranged dockage for the entire event at The Royal Docks. The yacht’s owner is seeking a 17-day base rate of €675,000, plus 20 percent VAT and customary expenses.
The Royal Docks are in the heart of the Olympics action, within easy tender or driving distance to most events. Edmiston created the map at right to show the location where Legend will be berthed, as well as its proximity to various events. (The red square in the center of the page points to the docks, if you're viewing on a smaller screen and can't make it out.)
Any reputable charter broker can tell you more about charter during the 2012 Summer Olympics or help you book Legend at the 17-day package rate including dockage.

Motoryacht of the Month: 360°
The 155-foot ISA motoryacht 360° is a 2003 build that got a new owner in September 2009. He did a major refit that included new hull paint, the addition of Quantum zero-speed stabilizers, a cabin enlargement, new interior furnishings, a new audiovisual system, new helm electronics, an engine refit, and new marble in the guest cabins.
The result is a yacht that, while once neutral and a bit dated, is now contemporary and downright fashionable.

Sailing Yacht of the Month: Regina
The 183-foot sailing yacht Regina aims to combine European standards of style and construction with the traditional onboard charter experience in Turkey. She launched in early 2011 from Pruva Yachting with the looks of a gentleman’s yacht and an experienced crew who know the local waters well.
Our exclusive broker report from a recent fam trip in Turkey discusses the itineraries that are possible aboard Regina, the experience of cruising onboard, and more.
(Did we mention just how big she is for the cruising area? That's Regina in the photograph at right, anchored to the left of a typical-size gulet in Turkey.)
Captain of the Month: Paul Edmonds
Paul Edmonds is one of the captains who rotates duties aboard the 146-foot Feadship motoryacht Harle, which is headed to the London Olympics for summer 2012. He’s been with the yacht since she launched in 2007 and has extensive knowledge of the yacht’s strengths for charter.
“We like families and people who want things like big birthday or anniversary parties,” Edmonds says. “We’re not interested in wild and crazy parties—the owner gives us full authority to throw off anyone who is too drunk, into drugs, or inappropriate towards our crew—but nice people who are having a good time? We love that. We’re set up for it. We’re practiced at it. We can really throw a great party.”
Learn more about the charter experience aboard Harle in our interview with Capt. Paul Edmonds.
Chef of the Month: Gisele Lannamann
After earning a strong reputation for divine cuisine aboard the 75-foot sailing yacht Bahamian Rhapsody and the 64-foot sailing yacht Gadget, chef Gisele Lannamann recently took her cooking skills over to the 67-foot sailing yacht Aurora.
She and her husband, longtime Capt. Ken Lannamann, will be offering Aurora for charter during summer 2012 in New England at a lowest weekly base rate of $12,000 to $12,500 for two to four guests. Aurora is a 1988 build from designer Ron Holland, who is a longtime favorite of sailing aficionados thanks to the hull performance that his boats typically achieve.
Learn more about Lannamann’s fantastic cooking bio in our exclusive interview.
