YPI Group Expands Asia Division
YPI Group is now operating three offices in China as part of its YPI Asia division. The company's growing team in the region will be on hand at the third annual Hainan Rendezvous, which is scheduled April 5-8 at the Visun Royal Yacht Club in Sanya, China.
“We are the only full-service brokerage house with three dedicated offices in China and Hong Kong,” YPI Group CEO Bertrand Vogèle said in a press release. “We have grown from just one office in Aberdeen Harbour, Hong Kong, to three offices with optimal locations in Shenzhen and Nansha as well as growing the team with some great new broker talent.”
The press release from YPI Group points out that while China is just starting out as a player in the world of yachting, marina construction in the nation is at an all-time high. In addition, more than 10 percent of the billionaires on the 2012 Forbes list are based in China or Hong Kong. That list includes one China-based billionaire who is the world's ninth-richest man, according to YPI Group.

Longtime Broker Gail Hartman Opens Tortola Yacht Charters
Gail Hartman, a longtime broker formerly with V.I. Sailing and The Moorings, has opened her own company called Tortola Yacht Charters. It will specialize in booking fully crewed yacht charters throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Florida.
“I bring 16 years of industry experience to Tortola Yacht Charters, and I plan to continue providing the level of customer service that has consistently earned me the award for Top Crewed Yacht Charter Caribbean Broker of the Year,” Hartman said in a press release. “I’ve been honored to win that award for six years in a row, and I look forward to using my expertise about yachts and crew to help clients book the greatest vacations of their lives.”
Hartman began her yacht charter career as a vacation planning specialist with The Moorings. She was promoted to a dual role that included working as a global training instructor, which meant helping The Moorings to educate other specialists and produce company-wide consistency. Gail was a top sales producer with The Moorings and also became an organizer for the Interline Regatta, a nine-day event in the Virgin Islands that includes dozens of charter yachts. Most recently, Hartman was the crewed yacht charter broker for V.I. Sailing, Ltd.

Motoryacht of the Month: Calliope
The 138-foot motoryacht Calliope is the second-ever motoryacht built by Holland Jachtbouw, a Dutch shipyard with a strong reputation for building large sailing yachts. She launched in mid-summer 2010 and was kept private for owner use until summer 2011, which is when CharterWave got onboard for a tour with Capt. Ian Insull in Italy.
“We had a world cruise in mind when this boat was built,” Insull told our editor. “She was always meant to be big enough, strong enough, and with enough range to go around the world.”
Learn more about Calliope’s upcoming plans and the charter experience onboard in our newly posted First Impression review of Calliope.
Sailing Yacht of the Month: Nefertiti
Capt. Daniel Calascione is looking for people who love to sail.
He has been onboard the 90-foot Nautor’s Swan sailing yacht Nefertiti since the yacht’s launch in 2010, when he was hired as first mate. He became captain in summer 2011 and continues to lead the charter program—which includes racing charters as well as cruising itineraries.
“Families or couples are great, and we really like sailing enthusiasts,” Calascione says. “She sails beautifully, and we’re very fast downwind. We saw 29 knots in a storm once. Our top speed is generally 19 to 22 knots. And I’m a racer at heart. If I’m in a regatta, I want to win.”

Captain of the Month: Andrea Aliverti
Capt. Andrea Aliverti is at the helm of the 47-foot sailing catamaran Nemo, which he describes as a white boat that is green inside.
“We are trying to provide the same level of service and comfort that charter guests expect, but in a way that is good for the earth,” he says.
Nemo makes its own filtered water, uses only eco-friendly cleaning products, produces energy through solar panels and wind generators, and even offers charter clients biodegradable shampoo and soap.

Chef of the Month: Emma Whicher
Emma Whicher grew up sailing in England, raced in world championships, and worked for the charity Sail for Cancer before becoming mate/chef aboard the 67-foot sailing yacht More Magic.
“I love to cook fish and seafood—really, anything that comes out of the sea,” she says. “I also love making desserts. I do homemade ice cream, French pastries, all those kinds of things are fun. I like to cook a little bit of Asian, too. I do a lot of ceviches and rare tuna.”
That's Whicher's take on lobster salad in the photograph at right. Yes, indeed, it tasted as good as it looks.

Broker of the Month: Rebecca Riley
Charter broker Rebecca Riley of Paradise Yacht Charters recently spent some time cruising in the British Virgin Islands aboard the 150-foot Trinity motoryacht Encore as a guest of International Yacht Collection.
“We did a four-day charter that was round-trip from Tortola, and that I think a lot of charter guests would love,” Riley says. “The people in our group who scuba dive spent some time doing that, and the people like me who stayed on the boat had access to excellent Wifi plus things like the sundeck Jacuzzi. It was great. One of my favorite things was the day that Capt. Roy Hodges organized a tour of Jost Van Dyke in an air-conditioned, four-door SUV. We went to Foxy’s Taboo, which is on the other side of the island from the famous Foxy’s bar on the beach. It was great for a cheeseburger and a beer. Then we went on a tour of the island. I swear, spaceships do not ascend at the angles we did. The views were magnificent. The vistas were incredible.”
