CharterWave eNewsMay 2007 We’re Scouting for You in Europe As you read this edition of eNews, CharterWave editor Kim Kavin is making her way to Genoa, Italy, for the biggest European charter boat show of the year. Kim is traveling to Genoa following a stop in Burgundy, France, where she checked out a few charter options in wine country. After the Genoa boat show, she’ll be heading to both Greece and Turkey to personally investigate boats and crews in those growing charter markets, as well. Look for Kim’s full report on bareboats and crewed yachts alike in the June edition of eNews, and for her more complete reviews in our First Impressions, Crew Interview and Crewed Yacht Review sections in the months ahead. You also can keep up with Kim’s latest charter discoveries on a daily basis by reading her up-to-the-minute blog postings from Europe. She’s trying to post every day during her three-week scouting trip. Sponsored Blogs in Action! Our first two advertisers—charter broker Agnes Howard and motoryacht Capt. Jared Burzler—both started blogging this month on their sponsored pages. Agnes got started by introducing herself and explaining what kinds of tips and information she’ll be offering readers on a regular basis from her Fort Lauderdale office with Camper & Nicholsons International. Jared, meanwhile, is blogging at least once a week, trying to entice new charter clients by explaining all the fun and excitement happening onboard his motorayacht, Charisma, part of the Fraser Yachts Worldwide fleet. We hope you enjoy responding to their postings and encouraging them to keep those insider details coming. And if you want to set up a sponsored page of your own, check out our new online Media Kit by clicking here.
Book-Signing Success—and More to Come CharterWave editor Kim Kavin enjoyed a terrific turnout last month at the Bluewater Books store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she offered a presentation titled “Five Most Commonly Asked Charter Questions” and signed copies of her book Have the Whole Boat: The Insider’s Guide to Private Yacht Charter Vacations. Kim’s appearance was sponsored by Northrop & Johnson, which provided a charter yacht chef and gourmet hors d’oeuvres for the more than 50 people who attended. Bluewater Books was so happy with the turnout that they’ve invited Kim to organize a similar event this June, during the Newport charter yacht show in Rhode Island. Northrop & Johnson also got terrific feedback and has offered to sponsor future book signings, as well. The successful event also caught the attention of boating store West Marine, which is now working with Kim to arrange book-signing presentations at its more than 400 stores across America and Canada. Have the Whole Boat should be available in West Marine stores and on its website by the end of May. Stay tuned for upcoming dates and locations for future events, or click here to order your copy of Have the Whole Boat today.
Thank You. ThankYouVeryMuch! Have the Whole Boat and CharterWave also got a good bit of attention from the media in recent weeks, with reviews appearing in three boating magazines, one major boating website, and an upcoming interview for a major travel publication. Offshore, Soundings, BoatTest.com and Cruising World all printed positive reviews of Have the Whole Boat in their April or May issues. Our favorite quotes come from the Cruising World review, which ran under the headline "Expert Chartering Advice" and went on to state: "If you're thinking of a charter-yacht vacation but are confused about all the options, start by reading this book. ... [It covers] all the details that even experienced sailors and those who've chartered before will find enlightening." The biggest-circulation title we heard from this month was Conde Nast Traveler, whose writer will be quoting CharterWave editor Kim Kavin extensively in an upcoming feature about yacht charter. We’re not sure which month that feature is going to run, but you can be sure we’ll point you toward it as soon as it hits bookstore shelves.
Charter on the Silver Screen We’re not settling for just printed media this month, though. CharterWave also caught the attention of a well-known Hollywood movie screenwriter/producer who is completing research for a romantic comedy that involves chartering. Ever since he discovered CharterWave as the most in-depth source of charter information on the Web, he’s been working closely with editor Kim Kavin, asking her to consult on various aspects of the script and charter industry interaction. We promised not to reveal any information about the movie itself, but trust us when we say you’ll recognize the names involved as soon as we’re allowed to share them. Hang tight for more exciting details to come!
