Three Brokers Say

Maggie Vale, Churchill Yacht Partners

Three of my favorite charter yachts for families with children are the 128-foot Feadship motoryacht Go, the 114-foot Trident sailing yacht Tenacious, and the 47-foot catamaran Nemo.

Go is a beautiful 2010 launch that sleeps 10 with a very clever layout. Two large suites below can either be left open with sitting areas, or can be closed with dividing walls to make four generously sized cabins. The owner has an extended family and has designed the yacht to be child-friendly.

Tenacious is a wonderful sailing yacht with an energetic crew ready to play all day. They have loads of water and beach toys, including model sailboats that are remote controlled. The crew will lay a race course with markers to round, and the model boats race in their own mini-America's Cup regatta.

Nemo is a fantastic catamaran managed directly by the crew/owners, who are a young couple. The boat is roomy, safe, and beautifully maintained—and, most important, eco-friendly. Nemo is mostly “off the grid,” utilizing two wind generators, a solar panel, and multiple water filters for desalinization. The wind generators and solar panel satisfy most electrical needs, and the water is taken from the sea and filtered to make the cleanest drinking water imaginable. They also have a carbon dioxide machine to make sparkling water. I tasted a glass while onboard, and it was delicious. They also use only reusable cups and plates, silverware, cloth napkins, and so forth. Nothing goes into the garbage like plastic tableware or water bottles.

The top of my list for families with children is the new 200-foot Lürssen motoryacht Solemates. Captain Glynn Smith has small children of his own and loves kids.

We are working on a charter now with four-year-old twin girls plus three teenage boys . For the twins, the captain is arranging clowns and face painting and lots of fun activities.  For the older children, we are working on diving lessons, submarine cruises, fishing, snorkeling, water skiing, and the like, along with a full array of brand-new toys including Sea Bobs, a banana boat, a water trampoline, power surf boards, and lots of other goodies for children of all ages.

I love helping families with children plan a spectacular vacation. I think the Caribbean has a vast array of outstanding choices. For charters this winter, I would highlight:

The motoryachts Odessa, Atlantica, La Dolce Vita, and Obsession;

The sailing trimaran Cuan Law, which takes as many as 20 guests in 10 cabins in the British Virgin Islands (perfect for multigenerational family charters):

The sailing catamarans Matau, Motu, Cerulean, Priorities, and 42;

And the monohull sailing yachts Inukshuk, Cookielicious, Makayabella, and Paradise.
