charter yacht OutbackIf you've been following the CharterWave Twitter feed, then you know that Thursday and Friday brought a spate of newly announced deals and discounts for some well-respected motoryachts in the Mediterranean this summer. The number and value of the discounts is a bit surprising this far in advance of the season, perhaps indicating that, once again, heavy negotiations will be the order of the day for summer yacht charters in the Mediterranean.

The discount that caught my eye amid the many was the rate reduction on the 193-foot Austal motoryacht Outback, which is shown in the photograph above. This is a relatively new yacht, launched in 2007, and has received nothing but rave reviews and write-ups as part of the Edmiston and Company charter fleet. The summer Mediterranean high season does not start until July 1 (two and a half months from now), and already Outback's owner is trying to drum up bookings by reducing the yacht's weekly, high-season base rate from €399,000 to €375,000, which is typically Outback's low-season rate.

Another interesting deal announced late last week is for the 154-foot Perini Navi sailing yacht Andromeda la Dea. She is older, having launched in 1990, but is well maintained and regularly wins accolades for her charter chef's cooking. Management company Churchill Yachts announced late last week that, if you book before May 1 for a charter this summer in the Med, then the yacht's owner will give you nine days for the price of seven.

Primo Yachts also announced two deals of significance late last week. The 147-foot Feadship motoryacht Secret Life, previously €95,000 per week during high season in the Mediterranean, has dropped her weekly base rate to €79,000. And the 98-foot Benetti Sail Division motoryacht Mrs. White, if you book before April 30, will drop her weekly rate for high season in the Mediterranean from €56,000 vs. €70,000.

All four of these offers are noteworthy when you consider the quality of the yachts involved and the amount of time left before the summer season actually begins. Any reputable charter broker can help you take advantage of the deals, or talk with you about what they might mean in the context of negotiating other deals for summer Mediterranean charters.
