Chartering a sailing yacht for a regatta is fun whether you're interested in being a spectator or a participant, but chartering as a participant comes with additional hurdles. The yachts need to have racing sails and crew who know how to race, plus insurance riders that allow charter during racing events. That's why the news out of BCR Logemann is great: A number of sailing yachts in its charter fleet are available for regatta bookings this winter. Among them is one that really stands out, the 72-foot Andrews sailing yacht Safara. She's noteworthy because she won last year's Heineken and Nelson's Pursuit races, and because she has a history of allowing charters during these events. You may recall this article from CharterWave back in 2010, when Safara was chartered as the winning yacht in the Heineken Regatta. Charter broker Carolyn Titus of Northrop and Johnson Worldwide Yacht Charters explained at the time, "You don’t have to be full-on racing people to do this type of charter. In events like the Heineken Regatta, there is a cruising class. It is different from racing class. There’s enough racing to keep everybody entertained and active, but you don’t have to overdo it." So there you have it. Safara's a year-after-year winner, you don't have to be a hard-core racer to enjoy the ride, and she's currently available for winter regattas. If I've piqued your attention, then call a reputable charter broker today. The fastest yachts always book first for these events. Comments (0)

Regatta season is fast approaching in the Caribbean. There's the Nelson's Pursuit Race in late December in Antigua. There's the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta in late February and early March. The St. Barth's Bucket will take place at the end of March. And there's a host of smaller but very fun regattas in between.
