St. Lucia is rolling out the red carpet to visitors - especially yachts - encouraging them to visit this beautiful part of the Caribbean. They have worked tirelessly under the direction of Senator Allen Chastanet, the Minister of Tourism, to establish an infrastructure that will bring visitors and yachts of all sizes from around the world and the work is paying off.
I was lucky enough to be one of four yachting professionals invited to see the changes and new facilities in St. Lucia and have spent the last few days exploring this beautiful island. St Lucia and the Grenadines are definitely poised to be one of the next great yachting destinations.
We were boarding our yacht in Rodney Bay, about an hour and a half from the Hewanorra International Airport (UVH) which has convenient non-stop flights from many cities throughout the world. For those who are anxious to board their yachts, however, a helicopter service is available to get you there in just a few minutes.
Our accommodations were aboard the fabulous M/Y Chosen One (click name for online brochure - link expires August 31 - after that email us for new password

) a 120' Iintermarine motor yacht that charters for $65,000 a week plus expenses. We boarded the yacht in the new IGY Rodney Bay Marina, a modern facility which is the perfect base for yachts and provides great docking along with extensive local provisioning and banking services. Rodney Bay has great little shops and dining spots and is a perfect spot for joining a yacht for your holiday in the islands.
The next morning we took a daybreak cruise down to Soufriere. Our first day here included diving in the morning and exploring the magnificent Pitons including lunch at the breathtaking Jade Mountain Resort in the afternoon.
We enjoyed this area so much that when we learned Tropical Storm Irene might be dumping rain on us the following day, we decided to stay in Soufriere which is also home of the incredible Rainforest Spa at The Jalousie Plantation Resort on Sugar Beach. Even though it was pouring rain the next day - we didn't care! :) The spa services and the spa itself are definitely FIVE STAR! And the resort is so beautiful that it has become a top wedding destination - hosting as many as three weddings per week.
The final stop was in quaint seculded Marigot Marina. Marigot has accommodated yachts in excess of 200' and has a Marina Village with great little shops as well as another great spa and hotel.
Check out my Facebook for many more photos and postings about St. Lucia and the Grenadines and don't wait - call now to book your yachting holiday in the Caribbean.
There are yachts of all sizes and for all budgets available in the Grenadines including the M/Y Wil Power - a great 68' yacht that charters from $18,900 a week plus expensess. How about a 'Destination Wedding' followed by a honeymoon cruise aboard a fabulous yacht. Now 'that's' a way to start a marriage!
