First Impression: Promenade

Date toured: November 2006

Promenade is one of those boats that’s been chartering in the Virgin Islands forever. The 65-foot sailing trimaran is just shy of 30 years old, and she’s had the same owners for a decade. About 60 percent of the boat’s business at this point is repeat clients.
There’s a lot of information worth knowing in those numbers. The 60-percent repeat business figure is one that should tell you these folks do a good job on charter. (Why else would people keep coming back?) The fact that the yacht has been owned and run by the same couple for a decade is also a tip-off that these folks know what they’re doing.
The age of Promenade is not something to gloss over, though. She definitely looks her years, and she’s well-used, doing as many as 32 weeks of charter every year (the average charter yacht does about 20). She is clean and well-maintained, but don’t expect shiny new decks or perfectly maintained furnishings.
Do, however, expect modern amenities. Promenade’s owners make a point of upgrading onboard services and features regularly, and the yacht has a lot of technological gadgetry that you’d be hard pressed to find onboard other sailing catamarans her size.
There are iPod docks for looping your favorite tunes into the boat’s sound system, WiFi for getting your laptop hooked into the Internet, and Sirius Satellite Radio for hours upon hours of commercial-free music. There’s also a video projector in the main saloon, where a pull-down screen makes for a fun movie night with one of the hundreds of DVDs kept onboard.
Promenade is part of the Flagship fleet. She takes 10 guests with four crew. Contact any reputable charter broker for pricing information.—Kim Kavin
