New, 62-Foot Cat to Join BVI Fleet PDF Print E-mail

charter yacht AvalonI just received some exciting news from Capt. Paul Johnson aboard the 57-foot sailing catamaran Saga Boy Too: He and his partner, chef Melissa Murphy, will be taking command of a brand-new, 62-foot sailing catamaran this fall.

Called Avalon, the Lagoon 620 is on track for completion at the factory in France in time for Johnson and Murphy to pick her up in late September. They plan to complete a transatlantic and have her available for inspection at December's Antigua Charter Yacht Show, with availability for charter in their home waters of the British Virgin Islands for the winter 2010-11 season.

As you can see in the photograph at right, which is of another Lagoon 620, Avalon will be among a new generation of catamarans that offer a flying bridge for extra guest comfort. She will take as many as 10 guests in five cabins, each of which will have an en suite bathroom and queen-size bed.

Johnson says the weekly base rates for charter aboard Avalon will be $26,000 for six guests, $28,000 for eight guests, and $31,000 for 10 guests.

"We will be sad to say goodbye to Saga Boy Too after our two years onboard," Johnson said. He notes that the smaller catamaran, with him and Murphy as crew, is still available for charter through April in the BVI. Saga Boy Too is managed by CharterPortBVI.

Any reputable charter broker can tell you more about Saga Boy Too or help you negotiate one of the first bookings aboard Avalon for next winter.
